August 2019 Newsletter
Dear Friends and Family,
Greetings from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada! Another month has passed as we wait for news regarding our South African visa applications. This reminds us that no earthly home is permanent, that we should rather desire for a better home in the city that God has prepared for us in heaven (Hebrews 11:16). We have also seen God’s provision for our needs over the past few months. God has provided a new place for ministry in South Africa that will allow me to use the gifts he’s given me, without the need to uproot our family and move again. God has also provided for all of our needs as we wait in Canada through our family, our home church, and our other faithful supporters. We are grateful for your prayers and ask that you continue to pray for us as we continue to wait.
Visa Update
In June we returned to Canada to renew our South African visas. We were required to apply for our new visas in person at the South African embassy in Ottawa, which we did near the end of July. It has now been over a month since we submitted our visa applications. We had expected that it would take up to 30 days for our applications to be processed, but were advised by embassy staff that it could take up to eight weeks. We continue to wait and pray that our visas will be granted soon, if it is God’s will.
We have taken advantage of this time to visit with family, friends, and supporters that we rarely get to see. I have also used the time to move forward on several ministry projects. I implemented my academic administration system (BASIS) at another Bible college in Africa, and have been working to integrate BASIS with Moodle (a popular learning management system) so that it can be used in many more schools. I have also spent time with the graduate students I am supervising at the South African Theological Seminary (SATS) and have begun work on a few other ministry projects.
Prayer Requests
- Pray that our new South African visas will be granted
- Pray that God will provide for the ongoing shortfall in our ministry account
- Pray for Sarah and Katie as their studies will be affected in different ways the longer we wait
- Pray for John and Rebecca in St. John’s and for Anna and Hannes in Cape Town
Blessings in Christ,
Tim & Kristina Churchill
