Zambia 1-0 Uganda
Zambia played Uganda in a qualifying match for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations at the new 41,000-seat Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Ten of us went to watch the match together: Kristina, Anna, Sarah, Katie, and I, two friends from Lusaka, and some friends from TCCA. In the picture above, I’m with our Lusaka friends, plus a random Zambia super-fan who let us take our picture with him – he’s wearing the yellow glasses. Also note my cool orange Zambia kit…
The stadium was buzzing with vuvuzelas, air horns, and marching bands that didn’t stop for a second throughout the entire match, and thousands of screaming fans (here’s a short YouTube clip). The place erupted when Zambia scored the only goal of the match. There were a few worrying moments in the second half when Uganda began to press, but Zambia came out on top and everyone went home happy, and deaf from all the noise!
